First Friday | Blue Bird Exhibition Opening - Heard Museum

Celebrate art, culture, and community with an evening full of inspiration and connection! Join us at the Heard Museum’s First Friday and enjoy FREE admission to celebrate the opening of Blue Bird, an exhibition exploring how the iconic brand (well known for its use in frybread and tortillas) has become a symbol woven into Native popular culture. See examples of how Indigenous artists transform the flour sacks into clothing, bags, masks, and paintings that celebrate its cultural resonance.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
You’ll also be among the first in the Valley to see Kay WalkingStick / Hudson River School! Organized by The New York Historical, the exhibition pairs celebrated Cherokee artist Kay WalkingStick’s contemporary landscapes with 19th-century Hudson River School paintings.

Come early to explore the museum, make memories in the Heardlings Family Activity Room, and stop in Books & More to browse books by Indigenous authors. Our Coffee Cantina will also be open for refreshments including Prickly Pear Lemonade and snacks to enjoy under the twinkly lights outside the museum entrance.
