East Valley Children's Theatre (EVCT) continues its 26th season with the world premiere of The Frog Prince, a children’s musical, by Marcus Yi. With a talented cast of 23 youths aged 8-18, the production features a fun and clever script accompanied by a catchy and upbeat musical score that makes it appropriate and enjoyable for audiences of all ages.
Winner of EVCT’s 2022 National Aspiring Playwrights Contest, Yi’s script revolves around Prince Harris, who is arguably the world’s worst prince. His snubbing of tradition and unrealistic promises prove disastrous when he decides to hunt in the nearby enchanted woods. His reckless disregard for others brings him the attention of the Fairy Queen Mab, who turns him into a frog. In order to reverse her spell, he needs a kiss from a princess. Enter Princess Jillian, who brings her own twist to royal tradition as a headstrong basketball whiz seeking an independent life. The script, songs, and lively choreography weave the story as the princess and prince work to try and overcome their differences and see if they can find their own, unique happily-ever-after.
The production takes place at the Mesa Arts Center, where EVCT is proud to be a Founding Resident Company. It runs from February 16-26 with performances at 7:00 PM on Thursdays and Fridays; 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM on Saturdays, and 2:00 PM on Sundays. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased online.
