Dedicated to the history and culture of the American Indian and cultures of the Southwest since 1929.

The mission of the Heard Museum is to educate visitors and promote greater public understanding of the arts, heritage and life ways of the indigenous peoples of the Americas, with an emphasis on American Indian tribes and other cultures of the Southwest. Founded in 1929, the museum is recognized internationally for the quality of its collections, its educational programming and its festivals. Dedicated to the sensitive and accurate portrayal of Native arts and cultures, the Heard is an institution that successfully combines the stories of American Indian people from a personal perspective with the beauty of art. The museum shop, founded in 1956, is dedicated to buying and selling only authentic Native made artwork. The majority of our inventory is purchased directly from the artists. Our museum cafe offers unique Southwest and Native inspired dishes, from our homemade Posole to Tepary bean hummus and prickly pear lemonade. The museum is open 7 days a week, 361 days a year. We are closed on Easter Sunday, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
