ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:
Joe Aaron Reid is so excited to reconnect with his hometown roots through the Rochester Broadway Theatre League. Growing up, Joe was very active in the Rochester theatre scene. In addition to countless appearances through his alma mater, Greece Athena, he was also very active with Performance Plus Dance Co. in Greece, as well as organizations like the RBTL Stars of Tomorrow program, RAPA, and Friends in Theatre Co, to name a few. After graduation, Joe headed to one of the top musical theatre programs in the country, Ithaca College. There, Joe would hone his craft, study abroad in London and develop connections that would lead to Summers working for The Rev Theatre Company in Auburn, NY. Graduation day, Joe would graduate in the morning and fly to NYC in the evening to begin rehearsals the next morning for his first Equity job, Ragtime at Paper Mill Playhouse. Catching the eyes of many of NYC’s top creatives over the next few months, Joe would go on to work for some of the country's premiere regional theatres and book his first job in New York, Kismet at City Center Encores. Not long after, Joe’s star continued to rise. Over the next 10 years, he would go on to originate Broadway roles in Curtains, Finian’s Rainbow, Catch Me If You Can, Ghost: The Musical, and If/Then, as well as replacing in Chicago, performing in three Tony Awards ceremonies, performing Off-Broadway and regionally, NYMF and performing on NBC’s primetime hit musical series, SMASH. Joe moved to London in 2015 with his family, where he continued to dominate the stage. Shortly after arriving, he was cast as Benny in the West End premiere of Lin Manuel Miranda’s first hit, In The Heights. The show garnered four Olivier Nominations and took home three. A highly sought after leading man, Joe left In The Heights to begin his next big role, Curtis Taylor Jr. in Dreamgirls. The huge Smash hit was nominated for five Olivier Awards and would walk away with two. Taking the stage at both Olivier Awards ceremonies was one of the highlights of his time in London. In addition to his onstage credits, he also worked extensively in the world of Voiceover. In his four years in the UK, he landed campaigns for Samsung, L’Oreal, Emirates, T-Mobile, Weetabix, Dannon and Under Armor, to name a few. After taking a gap year with his family in France, Joe decided that he wanted to take on Hollywood. Since arriving in Los Angeles, Joe has branched out in creative ways, other than acting. Although he has some acting projects waiting in the wings, as a writer, he’s also shopping around his first full-length feature film. Although Covid-19 took his first year in LA for a loop, it’s arrival taught him the only truly important rule...There are no rules.
