The Nutcracker Youth Auditions

Audition Date: Sunday, August 28, 2022
Youth roles for Ballet Arizona’s production of The Nutcracker are available to children between the ages of 9-18 years old. Students must be 9 by December 1st, or be in The School of Ballet Arizona’s Level 2 to audition.
Auditions will be held at Ballet Arizona Studios located at: 2835 E. Washington Street
Phoenix, AZ 85034
(29th Street and Washington Street)
Only auditioning students will be permitted in the building. Parents/guardians will need to wait outside for the duration of the audition.
Please fill out the registration form prior to your arrival and turn in on the day of the audition. Registration begins one hour prior to scheduled audition time. Registration fee is $15 for non-SBAZ students and SBAZ students are free of charge.
Audition Times
- ALL Boys (ages 9-18, or SBAZ Level 2) 9:30am – 10:00am
- SBAZ Level 2-4/ ASA Grade 5&6 10:00am – 10:45am
- SBAZ Level 5& 6/ASA Grade 7&8 10:45am – 11:15am
- SBAZ Level PPP & UP/ ASA High School 11:15am – 11:45am
- Open audition Girls (ages 9-12) 12:00pm – 12:30pm
- Open audition Girls (ages 13-18) 12:30pm – 1:00pm
All auditioning must attend the audition for their age group and should be available to stay additional time on the day of the auditions.
Audition Attire:
Dancers should come dressed in classical ballet attire for the audition:
- Girls wear: tights, leotard, and ballet shoes (no skirts), hair in a bun. No dangling jewelry.
- Boys wear: trim fitted t-shirt or leotard, tights or bicycle shorts, ballet shoes, jazz shoes or socks.
Performance and Rehearsal Information:
The Nutcracker will be performed at Symphony Hall with the Phoenix Symphony.
Rehearsals for the Youth Cast are broken down by character on Saturdays starting September 10 and run through December 3, with the exception of: October 15, November 19 and November 26. Tech rehearsals are Wednesday, December 7, Thursday, December 8 and Friday, December 9. The youth cast will alternate between three casts. All casting is at the sole discretion of Ballet Arizona Artistic Staff.

Attendance Policy:
Please be aware, as this is a professional production, attendance at all rehearsals is extremely important. Cast members are allowed one excused absence before Saturday, December 3, 2022. If a cast member is not able to participate because of the attendance policy, the Artistic Staff will assign roles to someone else.
