Delve into the history of Oshawa's first Ladies College with the Oshawa Museum's Executive Director “You’ll shine with the outer one, go where you will But neglect not the inner, dear girls of Demill.” From the “Girls of Demill” by Lyman C. Smith The Girls of Demill For over 20 years, Demill Ladies College in Oshawa was a beacon for female education, attracting students from across Ontario and the United States. Opened in 1876 the purpose of Demill Ladies’ College, was to bring the higher branches of education within the reach of the largest possible number of young girls. Join Laura Suchan as she introduces you to some of the students and teachers and explores what it was really like to work or live at Demill. Learn about actors Warren Betty and Shirley McLaine’s connection to a student at the school and find out what happened to some of the school’s graduates. Laura Suchan is Executive Director of the Oshawa Museum and has been researching and writing about Demill Ladies College for over 20 years.
