Volcanic Eruption at Arizona Science Center

*The event has already taken place on this date: Thu, 01/25/2018
Watch as flames and smoke shoot off the rooftop of Arizona Science Center as we recreate the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime event.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Bring the whole family for a night of volcanic fun. We are talking real flame effects, which will transform the north side of the Science Center facing Heritage Square into a simulated volcano. Arizona Science Center is partnering with Walter Productions, a local production company known for their out-of-this-world festival experiences at Bonnaroo, Electric Daisy Carnival, Lost Lake Festival and more. Together, we're creating an awe-inspiring eruption, complete with jets of real fire and plumes of smoke, all in celebration of the incredible POMPEII: THE EXHIBITION.

The action doesn’t stop there. POMPEII: THE EXHIBITION and all 4 levels of the Science Center will remain open until 9 p.m. with an explosive twist. Enjoy an evening filled with fiery science demonstrations, volcano-themed activities, fierce photo-ops, and Pompeii-inspired drinks for guests 21 and over.

-Explore the Science Center. Come early or stay late! POMPEII: THE EXHIBITION and all 4 levels of the Center will be open from 5– 9 p.m. POMPEII: THE EXHIBITION is timed entry – we highly recommend purchasing tickets ahead of time online.

-Be awestruck by the Great Eruption! Find a spot outside in Heritage and Science Park to watch the Great Eruption, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Dress warmly and bring stadium chairs if you would like.

-Enjoy hands-on demonstrations. View amazing science demos by our guest interpreters, the Blue Crew.

-Grab a bite. Get a snack or eat dinner at Beansprouts Cafe inside of the Center.

-Have a drink! Enjoy beer, wine and specialty cocktails inside at our adults 21+-only bar.

Real volcanic eruptions are no laughing matter. They devastate entire communities, as we have seen with recent events in Bali, and as we saw in 79 AD in Pompeii, Italy. This evening aims to amaze and educate about the astounding power of volcanoes, with a focus on the historic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius and the city it buried in time.
