Great Start Karate makes it easy for children ages 5+ to begin learning karate at home. No previous experience is needed. In each live online class, children follow clear demonstrations, practice one step at a time, and receive personal help and encouragement from their instructor.

Classes are active, welcoming, and designed to help beginners feel successful from the start. Children learn foundational kicks, blocks, and karate movements while developing coordination, focus, confidence, and perseverance. As their skills grow, they can earn belts and continue advancing at a pace that supports real learning.

Great Start Karate was founded by Jan Stockton, a 3rd-degree Black Belt and author of PE With a Purpose. Jan has spent nearly 40 years teaching children through martial arts.
